Introductions

It is 5 a.m.-- time for my usual safety check. Hold on one minute, you might need to know who “I” am. My official title is Head of Safety at Harrison Family Builders, but the Boss calls me Denver.

Can you imagine, with an important title like Head of Safety, he would call me Denver?

Anyway, I need to make my safety check around the perimeter of my domain. Sniff, sniff, sniff.  All is clear; time to go curl up for a few minutes of shut eye before breakfast is served.  Tick-tock.  Tick-tock.  Tick-tockkk!  Wait!  What time is it?  Has the boss left me?!  He tends to do that more often than not and then gives me some excuse about how I might get hurt, or that other people might not appreciate me being at that job site. I think he is doing things that are frowned upon in the safety world and doesn’t want me to see.

Oh, the door is opening, and--yessss! I get to go to work today! I mean, a guy has to prove his worth somehow, and you can’t do that by sitting around at home all the time.  It’s about time the Boss recognized my invaluableness.

I can’t wait to jump in and feel the wind in my face as we are cruising down the road. My tongue hanging out, and the hair on my neck standing up. Awwww. That air conditioner feels so nice. Now hold on!  Before you say that I should be riding in the back of the truck, let me point out that I am just as important as anyone and have the right to ride in the cab just like the next person. Sure I might pant and drool a little, but I try to mind my manners. I am very obedient most of the time. Besides that, there are so many safety violations in the back of that truck that I am scared.

I admit it. I get scared sometimes by things that I don’t know about or that move too fast, but enough about my weaknesses.  I mean, this is my introduction into the world, and I want to look good. Of course it’s hard to look good with this bandana on….geez. Doesn’t she know that blue clashes with my eyes. Let me just say this, one of my colleagues and I have different ideas on fashion. And for some reason unknown to me, the Boss keeps her around.

Nevertheless, that is all the time I have for this little chat today. We’re at the job site, and I already see some safety issues. I will have to report back to you and let you know my findings. For now, over-and-out!
